The N. CA coast is twisty and dramatic.
A wet, cool spring turns the hills green.

Wildflowers have unobstructed views of the sea.
Inland a few miles, we visit Redwood National Park.
In a misty drizzle, we walk silently and reverently among the ancient giants.
The dense canopy is wreathed in fog and admitts only a bit of filtered light.

| Sequoia Sempervirens, the Redwood's Latin name, means "ever living." |
The gnarled bark is a testament to the beauty of age.
The oldest living beings on Earth, they have endured fire, flood, and pestilence.
In the presence of the massive trees, we're humbled.
Now, we're staying in a small beach town on the Oregon coast.
We're watching the changing colors of sky and sea.

We're enjoying sunsets.
Tomorrow our journey continues.
Tomorrow our journey continues.

The last two photos are magnificent, Barb! The 'changing colors of sky and sea' photo has an 'other worldly' look to it and the 'This heart is for you' photo is very special with the sun rays filtering through.

ReplyDeleteEvery picture is wonderful (and makes me homesick) but I am particularly in awe of the Redwood pictures; I have had such trouble getting good pictures of that awe-inspiring place...you did beautifully capture the feel and mood. Thanks.
Western coast lines are so beautiful, I like their ancient feeling, especially the trees! Sunsets over ocean are not to be forgotten!

ReplyDeleteI'm catching up and looking at several posts at once here -- what beautiful vistas! Isn't Bodega Bay where "The Birds" was filmed in part? And that redwood forest -- I can't imagine anything so tall and beautiful! Keep having fun!
ReplyDeleteThere are lots of memories in these photos for me, too.
ReplyDeleteToo bad I was too young to appreciate so many of these place when I was there. I am with Christine, I need to see them again.
Barb you got some beautiful shots of the redwoods. I think the fog adds to the beauty.
I am glad you are getting decent weather for the northern part of your trip.
Thanks for sharing your journey with us. . . the last time I saw the Redwoods was when I was 19, many moons ago. The "heart" is unique! Many of your photos could be wonderful postcards.
ReplyDeleteHey Barb... incredible photos once again...Yes I have been to the Sequoia Ntl. Forest. I found it to be so humbling too. I know what you mean, while walking around those massive trees we found ourselves whispering to one another....walking away so amazed! The winding road down to the city...was a little too well, I had to stop a couple of times LOL. I would love to return.
