Oregon has kept us busy.
We've explored rainy forests.
We've walked misty shorelines.
We've admired delicate wildflowers.
Now, we're in Portland, enjoying the city.
We like the blend of architectures.
There is a youthful, energetic vibe.
People have been kind and thoughtful. This morning, a homeless man tried to help us figure out the Max train and city transit system. When we finally had our day tickets, he waved and shouted as we boarded, "It's best to know where you're headed!"
We were headed for Washington Park and Hoyt Arboretum.
We also visited the tranquil Japanese Garden. I thought of my Blog friends from Nara.
Coming back, we took the bus and then walked through the city to our hotel.
We're ready for a treat before bed.
Tomorrow, we'll venture up the Columbia River Gorge.

Oh, you are seeing the very best of Oregon, Barb, and my favorite places! Your photos are fantastic! Looks as though you're having a wonderful trip! That's terrific! Enjoy! Look forward to more pics soon!

ReplyDeleteHi Barb!
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful photos you always have for us!
I LOVE the quote from the man who helped you with the Max train and transit system:
"It's best to know where you're headed!"
perfect for my chalkboard tomorrow morning!
My neighbor's daughter moved to Oregon... she loves it there ~ now I understand why... how lush and green and gorgeous!
Wishing you a happy week,
*Maria
What a beautiful area...from it's lush green forest, to it's misty shoreline, and it beautiful architecture in the city. This is one area that I have not yet visited...in person that is!
ReplyDeleteWonderful shots. The wild flowers are beautiful.
ReplyDeletePortland is an interesting and diverse city. I enjoy all the districts and being able to enjoy nature's lush well watered green. Haven't been there or the Gorge in way too long. Enjoy the waterfalls.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fresh green and air in rainy forests! I love rainy days as trees or plants become more open to us. But hard to take photos. It's a dilemma situation for me.
ReplyDeleteWhen I go to Osaka, I buy "The Big Issue" magazine. All homeless people I met are kind and well mannered. I wonder for a while why they became homeless.
The Japanese garden is very lovely. Yes, it has moss and white gravels!!
Sweet temptation is hard to resist, I'm a person with a poor will.
Barb, have a great day!
a lovely tour. i'd love to take another visit to portland.
ReplyDeleteHow very stunning, I want to go so badly. Thanks for taking me there in your photos. I have to show my hubby this blog.
ReplyDeleteOregon is so full of contrasts. Thank you forgiving us such a diversity to enjoy. I too loved being there.
ReplyDeleteYou bet my granddaughter's team won, beat their pants off at 7 - 0!
I am so drawn by either of those paths into the woods.
ReplyDeleteI love the advice of the homeless man.
I always thought the Pacific Northwest was beautiful, you have confirmed that.
Great pics. I've never spent much time in Portland but I like the city. Some of the investors that spent years transforming downtown Portland bought about a bunch of property in downtown Tulsa about ten years ago and have been slowly and steadily transforming the area. We are no Portland but things are getting better.
ReplyDeleteHi,Barb.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy all of your fabulous photos. Especially the photo of the brown building with a triangular roof catches my eyes! Is that a hotel where you stayed?
The rain forest is very beautiful. I walked along the long path with you,but Barb, I did not get tired today, because the green forest was very beautiful! Your wild flowers are always graceful, so I love them.
Thank you for remembering your Blog friends from Nara!
Tomoko.
The images are gorgeous Barb and it looks like Oregon has treated you well weather and otherwise. I have wanted to see the gorge and almost went there last year before I decided on the cape. So I'm excited you'll be sending us images of it. Take care and be safe. Carol
ReplyDeleteMan, those huge trees are unbelievable! Seems like humans have treated many of these areas with respect. Nice expose of your Oregon visit.
ReplyDeleteI have never been to Oregon and would very much like to visit this lovely state. How nice to get to see it through your eyes!
ReplyDeleteAlways enjoy your photos.
ReplyDeleteThe first one looks so inviting and makes me want to slip right in there and go walking.
Lovely to see the photos of the city and remember why we choose to live in the Pacific Northwest.
ReplyDeleteI don't see anything at all about that city not to like. It looks like you two are having a grand time on your northern tour. My, isn't it green!!
ReplyDeleteI love the first photo of the green forest path.
ReplyDeleteYou're having a fabulous trip, seeing so much of both cities and landscapes!
Your world is beautiful my friend, your pictures are beautiful and I love your choice of treats...lol
ReplyDeleteLove that you are having fun...Hugs
I would love to visit that lovely garden. I has been years since we have explored Portland.
ReplyDeleteBarb - your pictures are gorgeous, - Oregon is such a lovely state. As I write this my eye catches your sidebar quoting Mary Oliver "Lingering in Happiness" - how beautifully descriptive and so indicative of her deep awareness.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your lovely holiday.
Oh, Barb, how I envy you of your days of traveling, photography, and blogging! Oregon state has such various charms, forests, seashores, fields of wild flowers and urban areas. Portland looks fascinating town with beautiful different designed architectures which would show multicultural aspect of the city. In Japanese garden, thanks for remembering us. Not only scenery but also people are nice, I’m happy for you. Thank you for guiding me around. Look forward to the report about Columbia River Gorge.
ReplyDeleteBarb, wondering how long you'll be in Oregon? Sounds like you are having a magnficient time! The Japanese Garden looks so peaceful, but I am also kinda intrigued by the whimsical bike stands. And the thoughtfulness of the people.
ReplyDeleteI'd be there with you at the ice cream place, especially now that we have hit a patch of HOT weather. I love the rugged photos of Oregon. And the delightful bike stand. Always good to have a sense of whimsy.
ReplyDeleteIsn't Portland just the most beautiful city? Did you get to Voodoo Donuts? Or Powell's? I hope you got sun up the gorge, and that you get to see the mountain goats.
ReplyDeleteYea..welcome to MY WORLD! I knoiw you'll have a fab time in the GORGE..the historic hwy is THE BEST..and all the water falls. Bridal Veil hike is a favorite of mine. We sent our Wedding invitations off from Bridal Veil post office. The stanp is like the size of a Lig=berty dollar and is a favorite of local brides, to have that on the invitations.
ReplyDeleteHAVE FUN DEAR!!!
Kacy
The path through that lush green forest is so inviting. I'd love to explore it. I don't recognize those wildflowers so you must be in a different world from ours!
ReplyDeleteLove Portland! Mom went to Lewis and Clark College, many moons ago.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your journey!
Sweet hugs,
Sierra Rose
Wow - what spectacular shots!
ReplyDeleteI loved this post. And I'll always remember that it's best to know where you're headed!
ReplyDeleteThis is my 3rd time here, Barb... grandchildren happenings occur and keep me from commenting...love the photo of Bob on the gray trail and I thought of our Nara friends too on viewing the Japanese Garden!
ReplyDeleteThe trails look so inviting to me, especially if I get to see those gorgeous wildflowers! Beautiful photos as always Barb. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteBarb, when you get back I would love you to e-mail me and tell me how you planned this trip. Although I have always wanted to go to Hawaii....there is sooo much to see right here on this coastline and your pictures are amazing...I am sure they only capture a teeny tiny breath of the reality of it...wow.....
ReplyDeleteI love all of the green and the flowers! You are really getting to see a lot of places on this trip.
ReplyDeleteA zillion thanks for the taste of home! You are really showing everyone what is lovely about our old home state -- all the varied beauty and things to do. Loved the story about the homeless guy helping you with the MAX. We're on the road -- and I'm not at all sure that we DO know where we're heading l>)
ReplyDeleteHiya Barb-
ReplyDeletenice to see Portland through you eyes. I am not a city girl, BUT, I will say as far as cities go, I think Portland & Seattle are in the top 2! Looks like you've had a wonderful trip!
Practically perfect in every way, I think. Oregon is a state I long to discover -- all the more so now!
ReplyDelete"It's best to know where you're headed!" What a great philosophy. I think that's always been my motto, too.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos! Are you using a panoramic feature on your camera for the wide shots, or editing pics together? They're so beautiful.
