LIfe at High Altitude in Colorado

May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds.

Windy West Coast - Point Reyes and Bodega Bay, CA

San Francisco was just waking when we said goodbye to Marin County.
San Francisco Skyline at Dawn Taken from Sausalito
The wind was whipping by the time we got to the National Seashore at Point Reyes.
The wildflowers wouldn't hold still. They rocked and rolled in time with the wind.
The surf's music was wild and loud. The gusts caused sensory overload.
We stopped for the night in Bodega Bay. Gusts whistled and groaned outside our door.
In the morning, thinking we had lost the wind, we climbed the trail at Bodega Head.
Bracing against the Wind.
Unfortunately, it found us!
The trail rose to ever-expanding views of the cliffs and the Pacific.
We searched the ocean for migrating Gray Whales, but the choppy water made spotting difficult.
Wildflowers waved frantically beside the path.
Some spilled over the cliffs to the sea.
Tomorrow, we'll run this trail again before leaving to drive north on Route 1 toward Mendocino.
Perhaps the wind will keep us company.

  1. Splendid pictures Barb, - the sea is so beautiful as the wind whips it into froth and whitecaps. Your words describe it so economically and elegantly. Hope you are having a wonderful holiday and perhaps the wind will have worn itself out tomorrow and stay at home and sleep...

  2. Barb,
you sure can tell it's windy when you see those white caps waaaaay out there! glad you didn't get blown off that ledge! I know about getting beat up by the wind- it sure does blow in the spring in Santa Fe! (though today was quite lovely- 75, sunny, light breeze & the day off!)
What an insanely gorgeous coastline, though! I sure do need to get there one day!

I think I might have . The West coast of Canada and to think I didnt take photos then. I just sat for hours and enjoyed. Someday I will do it again. I loved the
    The surf's music.

  7. Hi, Barb, how is the wind today? While reading, I felt strong wind whipping my face and roaring in my ears.

The first photo is awesome! I love the city skyline and indigo clouds running on the sky. The fifth one is terrific: the tug of war between the indigo sea with white foamy wave crests and the land.

Take care and continue a wonderful trip!

  8. Wow! Its worth the early hours to catch the transformation of the skies. The SFO skyline looks like a my blue top washed in bleach!

I still have to catch up with you on the trails, I walk, and can't run yet!

  9. Oh Barb, I'm lifted up to the skies by your photos. They are all tremendous, you are so good. The one of San Francisco in its monochromatic glory just knocks me out. The ones of the trail, the wildflowers, the person walking, I love them. The one of the surf pounding in! I can feel the wind, and I'm in heaven.

  11. Some blogs I get impatient when the pictures take a while to load but not yours. I know the wait will be worth it.
Those cliffs are just beautiful and I love an angry sea.

  12. I love all of your photos. In the first photo, the sky, sea and buildings, everything, they are bathed in purple haze. The city looks like a purple mirage. Beautiful!! I love the paths through wild flowers. Refreshment of mind and body!
    Have a nice day!

  15. I almost took exactly the same picture as your 3rd one. I am surprised you haven't published one of the lighthouse.

    Greetings,

  19. Those are splendid photos! I think that the wind might have kept the fog at bay. It looks like the seashore is in full bloom. What a special combo - the ocean and wildflowers!

You're missing out on some wonderful weather here in CO :) It has snowed or rained almost every day for the past couple of weeks, at least in the front range. We need the water but I'm dying for some sunshine!

  21. Barb, my heart was stopping when I looked over the cliff! AHHHH it is so beautiful and amazing, but just looking at the pictures almost sent me into a panic lol, Bob would be on the edge looking over and I would be 100 yards in...shouting at him to get away from the edge! But I would do it! I would conquer my fear because it is so beautiful!

  22. Your pictures leave me so breathless. My uncle lives in Pebble Beach, so I've been near to where your taking these pictures. So spectacular and beautiful.

Your picture of San Francisco, too, has something mystical about it ... magical.

    Thank you!

  23. wow, Barb, you do get around. I can't believe how many places you've been and seen...well done!

yes, I don't know why I always get the cough here, but I ma slowly getting better, praise God. The little grandson has had it in varying degrees for over six months poor kid. Various tests etc are underway. I think they cycle it around at the daycare!

Sounds like you are having a great time!

  25. Hi Barb!
Your photos are still clear as ever, despite the whipping winds! What a wonderful trip though... Some day we'll get back to the west coast. The shoreline is spectacular isn't it?!

Wishing you and Bob a magnificent time and safe travels. Blessings always, Maria

  28. I really, REALLY like the photo of the waves in the third photo. It's the perspective that's wonderful to my eyes. Funny how I never think of anyone having to wear a hood against the wind in California this time of year. Shows how much I don't know. :)
