LIfe at High Altitude in Colorado

May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds.

Breckenridge's Peak 8 in Summer - My World

My friend, Mary, paid a short visit to Summit County, CO.
Ten Mile Range with Continental Divide in Distance.
Helen, Mary, and I hiked in the Peak 8 Bowl.
There is still an incredible amount of snow for the middle of July.
We were not alone!
Our foxy friend found us so boring she pretended to sleep.
Amid the snowfields and wet bogs, the Globeflowers thrived.
Under a moody sky, they carpeted the alpine tundra.
We climbed along the steep T-bar line.
We listened to the music of streams cascading through snowfields.
In the evening, all the Girlfriends gathered at Helen's house.
We watched birds take evening baths.

  8. I love seeing the alpine tundra and its flowers! It's amazing how late summer is this year. I keep wondering how the tundra will squeeze all those wildflowers into such a short summer.

Glorious photos of the mountains. Thanks!

Our high mountains are starting to open up. I'm hoping to get the OK from the vet to take a high mountain hike with K soon. Somehow, I feel incapable of going without her!

  13. What a lovely day you had, Barb! We can't expect more than this, sharing pleasures and toils along the way and at the end of the day blessed in the beautiful nature. At that steep slope, I don't think I can follow you. Now that hiking season started for you, I look forward to more alpine flowers, wildlife, and mountain views. The fox looks wise, calm and collected. Happy days ahead.

  22. Dang lady, that is some steep climbing but loved the obvious cool you got to experience.
Really liked the fox shots as they are my favorite animal. One thing I love about them is that they are not really impressed with us two legged creatures. I often sense they feel quite superior to us.

  34. Wow! What a sunset.
I was amazed at the amount of snow at Lassen. Jules had hoped to hike to some thermal springs but the trail was still full of snow.
I'll check out the trails in the Eastern Sierra this weekend. If there is still too much snow for a decent hike I'll try something lower.
