LIfe at High Altitude in Colorado

May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds.

Biking in the High Country

Our Family likes to bike.
Bob along Mineral Trail, Leadville, CO
In July, our son, Gregg, rode in the Leadville 50 Mile Mountain Bike Race.
He was still smiling at the end when he was congratulated by his team.
Gregg and Jim before last day of their ride
Both our sons rode in the 3 day Courage Classic in July to raise money for Children's Hospital.
My husband, Bob, rides nearly every day. Biking is his favorite sport.
Montezuma, population 44, an old silver mining town in the high valley of the Snake River, Summit County, CO
Sometimes I join him, though I often lag behind.
Mining ruins along Mineral Trail
I have to stop often to photograph the scenery.

Even the youngest Grandchildren are learning to balance.

By next summer, they'll be riding with us.
Soon enough, they'll lead the way.
They'll say, "Hurry up Grammy! Stop taking pictures!"

  5. You need a family group photo of everyone and their bikes, Barb! My parents often spoke of the fish hatchery and old mining ruins they saw in Leadville. I've grown accustomed to seeing photos of Bob off in the distance ahead, when biking and hiking! :)

  10. Hello Barb! I'm sure you all make a beautiful, happy, healthy bike team soon! I imagine family tailgating - maybe you won't have time to take pictures unless you are the last rider.

By the way, Gregg's wife and children are wearing nice handmade tie-dyed fabric. Are they made by her?

Thank you for sharing the breathtaking scenery and your loved ones. Have a nice weekend.

  12. As you can imagine, I love this post! Your son did the Leadville 50? Very cool!

I love all the photos but Bob on the tricycle may be my favorite. Does he do his daily rides on that bike???

I'm glad that you were spared the violent storm that we had today. Our power and phone were out for many hours.

  14. With so many beautiful things to stop and photograph, I don't know if I could ever make it to the end of a long trail up there. The picture of Lake Dillon with the mountains in the distance is postcard worthy!

  27. Great post, Barb! Yes, who knew we could meet so many interesting people without leaving home? I have a friend who mountain bikes with her husband and now their grandson goes with them. So cool. Congratulations on being married 45 years! Wow, that is an accomplishment! And you still look absolutely stunning.

  29. It's not easy biking at that elevation. I'm feeling the altitude this year, haven't spent enough time in the high country.
Glad to see the little ones getting an early start.
