This morning, after about 30 hours of intermittent snow, we woke to a glittering world.
The blue spruce balanced fluffy pillows (which sometimes dropped unexpectedly) as we passed underneath.
The sun shone golden on Lehman creek.
The frigid water formed ice around the rocks. The low was 1 degree (F) overnight.
The ski area was busy making its own snow to add to that already on the ground.
We walked the 2 miles into town to get our mail. A bit of fall color still remained.
Returning home, I inspected my gardens.

Waldo assured me that today was the optimum time.
He is never wrong.
I spent a happy hour flinging seeds mixed with sand.
I scattered thousands of hopes and dreams for next summer's blooms upon the snow.

No! Not yet. The snow is so beautiful but it brings with it the cold. I don't want the cold to come. Not yet.
ReplyDeleteWow - how utterly gorgeous and magical! Your garden looks as if it is covered in diamonds.
ReplyDeleteLast year we had snow on October 15. This year it's still mild and plus temperatures...
There's something magical about the incandescent reflection of light on the snow.
ReplyDeleteShould I guess your feet at itching to ski?
Nice to see a little touch of golden leaves.
I noticed, blogger has a new platform showing a gallery of your photos. This is a cool idea.
ReplyDeleteAh, the cold and glittery white of winter. Already? I look forward to seeing winter through your lens but even more the spring flowers.
ReplyDeleteOh Barb, you DID have some snow! Your camera and good eye caught the sparkles and twinkles in it. I love that!
ReplyDeleteWaldo's smile passes along a winter greeting.

Oh Barb... I want to pass along a special ~ a very special thank you ~ for the apron and oven mitt! Doreen told me the whole story this past weekend while we visited our father. She gave me a gift to open and a sweet note to read. How lovely of you! I will tell you that she truly appreciated your suggestion. It is perfect with her store name!

Wishing you a sparkling weekend, Barb!

Barb you are very clever at capturing little vignettes and wrapping the story around them so that we experience a snippet of your world.
ReplyDeleteYour shots are as clear as the air, the contrasts brilliant today in the snow but best of all they have character...they are not just pretty pictures.
I saw your comment on one of Kat's texture players' pages. I have just set up a blog to play with my camera more...and added to the above.
It has a beauty all its own, - gorgeous pictures Barb, - icily so!
ReplyDeleteYou surprised me gain, Barb! Do you hear me saying woooow so beautiful!!! The color of your snow is always special. I love your blue and pure snow!! I am sure, that is giving you itchy feet to ski!
ReplyDeleteTomoko.
A wonderland already! At the top of the post I was wondering if you got those flower seeds strown about! The first Lehman creek photo and the snow in the Shasta Daisy photo really sparkle!
ReplyDeleteTime for Waldo's scarf!!!

ReplyDeleteMine just looks like A Hard Drive To Work.
Wow, nice photos. Thanks for them, keep your snow.
ReplyDeleteYou make the snow look so lovely! These are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteWaldo knows best! Gorgeous and magical images. Well done, Barb!
ReplyDeleteBarb, I figured you all were getting a lot of snow! We got about a foot I believe in the mountains, but none in town... and our temps are in the 20's, not the single digits! I love the shot of the tree- half bare & half in fall color w/ all that snow! Happy beginning of winter- stay warm, Barb!
ReplyDeleteWow! Gorgeous photos of snow!
ReplyDeleteI just adored the garden in winter pictures. You are a true artist.
ReplyDeleteMagnificent snow and shots. I am so envious of both. Did not know about that scattering of seeds mixed with sand. Will check it out for Ar that is if we are lucky enough to get snow.
ReplyDeleteWow Barb, you guys really got some snow. It is beautiful. I wished I could say I'm ready for that but give me a month or so. It's cold here but not 1 degree. Beautiful. Carol
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous photo. They don't even make me feel cold. Enjoy the snow, Barb.
ReplyDeleteLocely, everything in white. Will it stay?
ReplyDeleteGreetings,
Filip
The snow is indeed beautiful, and much more so because it is in your area and not mine. I love the idea of scattering the seeds. Brings to mind the saying, "bloom where you are planted." Enjoy the weekend.
ReplyDeleteI don't know which shot I like best. Maybe, the shasta daisy.
ReplyDeleteHow soon do you think the ski area will be open?
I know you are ready for that.
Show beautiful snow! We did know about this from our kids. --happy Winter! We are watching weather to decide how we'll wend our way South. Off to Seattle area first.
ReplyDeleteWhat camera do you use, Barb? Lovely!
ReplyDeleteFunny, you referred to the "pillows of snow" on the blue spruce's boughs. I always think of them as "snow bombs" that are trying to hit me on the head as I go through the forest.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like your beautiful winter has truly begun. It's wonderful that you fling your seeds on that day... full of hopes for next spring.
I think that we have one more thaw here... but only time will tell!
The first photo of the columbine seed pods with snow hats really captured my imagination.
Snow is glistening everywhere! I like the color of the snow you captured, bluish or purplish depending on the light and the shadow, and your description, too.
ReplyDeleteStay warm and have a happy weekend, Barb.
Yoko
Such beautiful photos. But the snow just makes me cold. I'm didn't get enough of summer and am in no way ready for winter, even though you make it look and sound so appealing.
ReplyDeletemy goodness, a snowy world, seems so far away here. but we never know. your photos are gorgeous Barb!
ReplyDeleteIt's a marshmellow world at your house. Looks so fresh and clean. How are you my friend? I think of you often, it has been too long.....:-)Hugs

ReplyDeletethats a lot of snow! adorable the last picture with the tree face...:-))
ReplyDeleteYour winter wonderland is beautiful. The picture of the columbine seed heads deserves to be framed.
ReplyDeleteJules is doing well, so well in fact I have a hard time keeping him as quiet as the doctor would like.
Barb, such poetry in pictures. It's amazing how much snow you have! We got our first squall on the 1st of Nov. I'm gonna' have to go ski boot shopping pretty quick! :) Gorgeous post.
