Fall Weekend in Denver - Our World

Denver had a very brief fall this year.
It snowed several times in the city the past couple weeks.
Limbs were broken and leaves shredded.
Many trees were prevented by cold weather from showing brilliant fall colors.
The twins, Amanda and Ben, are 8. Jack (the Jokester) is 7
We've spent most of the fall at our mountain home.
But as a treat (for them and for us), this weekend we took our oldest Grandchildren to the city.
We attended a performance of The Lion King.
Performing Arts Complex
The show kept us on the edge of our seats - both children and adults were mesmerized.
Amanda loves to dress "fancy"
(more than Grammy does...).
Afterward, Ben ordered root beer.
(Grandparents sometimes bend the rules a bit.)
Early Sunday morning, we played at the center-city Skateboard Park.
Jack scootered.
Ben rode his board.
Amanda (after a bit of scootering) settled down with a book.
(This is what Grammy also did as a child - and still does!)
Jack's red hair glowed in the sun's  warmth.
It mimicked the colors of this one bright tree still showing off for fall.
As you've probably surmised,  Grandchildren are a very important part of my world.

Others share their special worlds here:

  1. What a fun bunch of kids to be around … I think their youthful spirits must be catching. Also, how lovely to see a live performance of the Lion King. I hear it is spectacular! I, too, could be found engrossed in a book as a child. :)

  2. That is only natural Barb, they are a very important part of mine too. That charming picture under the lion shows that the twins have a very special understanding between them and I love your little joker.
I was just wondering whether you too rode a skateboard?? Now that would have been a sight for sre eyes!

  3. Amanda looks very pretty in her fancy dress and Ben, with his root beer and slightly tousled hair, looks like a fun kid, Barb. I can't believe how much Jack has grown. He's a cute 'jokester', but he looks like a deep thinker too in the glow of the sun photo.

That oak tree is really glowing too, against that blue sky!

  8. Beautiful images. I love the Lion King. I saw the movie with the god-children when the movie first came out a decade ago (or more). I've seen the stage play. Marvelous! Fun the grands ... can't be beat!

  12. Hello, Barb!
I see your grandchildren have grown! They are so adorable, and Amanda looks so happy in her red coat, black and white dresses! Your have made me happy to see
your grandchildren’s photos taken with love. The second photo captures my eyes. That is so crisp. Here in Nara, many leaves have not enough turned autumn, yellow and red.
    Please enjoy your week!

  13. Hello, Barb! Looks like you had a very happy weekend with your Grands – I’m happy for you. I like the song “Can you fee the love tonight” in the animation Lion King. I wonder if it is sung also in the show? Amanda is so lovely and looks nice with her fancy clothes. It’s interesting to know that Jack’s hair is neat while Ben’s hair is casual or tousled a little (to borrow Wanda’s expression). I have only one grandchild, I look forward to see her every month – really a very important part of my world, too.

  20. Jack's hair is the colour of the lion's mane...
I like that Ben has styled his hair...is it intentional or just messed up?

Your tree aglow is quite the finale.
I keep seeing red leaves on my walks and it makes me think of my Blog friends enjoying autumn in the other hemisphere.

  21. The grand kids are pure joy! What a wonderful weekend with different activities. Zee wants to see again the Lion King.

I need shades to stare at your flaming reds! They are gorgeous!

Old Ebie still has knee problems, but still going strong, hiking every weekend.

Its getting cold in the mornings now.

  24. I agree that the glowing hair is a wonderful shot.
Glad to see the helmets on their heads and that there is a budding reader in the mix.

  34. It looks like you had a wonderful time w/ the grands Barb! Amanda looks so stylish! When I was her age, I wore mismatching clothes & was usually covered in dirt, LOL.
They're lucky to live close enough that you all get to go out & play!

  35. This is another one of those special warm and fuzzy posts that pulls at my inner child and at my heartstrings. Children and grandparents having fun together. That is truly heaven on earth in my book. The photos of the children are precious. Love the red hair. I tried 3 time for a red headed child and failed. Finally, my 5th out of 6 grandchildren turned out to be a kinky curly fiery red head and I was in granny heaven again. Love all of your photos. Thanks for making my afternoon. I have a big smile on my face. genie

  38. I had to laugh at this one because I also love taking my grandkids to plays, but my granddaughters like dressing up way more than I do!

We did climb out on point over the rocks as far as our old bones would take us and we walked out on a long man made sort of trestle to try and catch a few crabs for dinner. Luckily we found the crab restaurant in Spud Bay because we got skunked!

    xxoo,

  39. Oh Barb, your grandchildren are just adorable! I love the look on Amanda's face in the first photo! I can almost tell what she's thinking!
She does indeed, dress fancy ~ I remember when my girls couldn't get enough of wearing dresses! Now, at 26 and 28, they love pretty dresses again...
I think I wear a dress 10 x's a year! When I was in Texas, though, it was so much cooler and breezier to be in a dress.
I'll bet the Lion King was awesome! I can tell by the look on Jack's face that he related well to the characters :o)
Your photo at the end is stunning with it's contrast of red against the bright blue sky.
I hope this weekend brings more joys your way*
Thank you for sharing and bringing us smiles too~

  42. I loved seeing your adorable grandies! UMMM yep I know exactly what you mean Grammy! They somehow just become "our world" when our own grow up. They are beautiful and I LOVE LOVE LOVE your 7 yr olds red hair! I WANT IT!

  43. Not only do grandparents bend the rules but aunts and uncles do too!!!

I love all your photos but the one of Jack's hair glowing really caught my eye. That's a tremendous photo of him.

Are you back in winter now? I always find this time of year odd. When I go down 3000' to the city, it's warm and fall-like. Then, driving home is like going through a time machine, fast-forwarding into winter!

  44. How perfect! I love the Lion King -- what a treasure for the kids to see that!

We have more than a few still leafy, colorful trees. I'm rather surprised; they're usually gone by late October. We had our first snow today. Short lived, but a sneak preview!

  45. I have seen the Loin King three times! Love it. So glad you could go with your grandkids. Thanks for stopping by my blog. Actually we do have snow but I was pretending we don't by posting a picture I took a couple of weeks ago.
