LIfe at High Altitude in Colorado

May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds.

I Was Wondering - Random Five

Five Random Thoughts:

1. Do foods have aestheticians and publicists? If so, I want the person who did the makeover on kale and quinoa to work on my image. I'd fire whoever is dropping the ball on corn and wheat.

2. Morning shadows make me look skinny. I always attempt to photograph myself in the best light. (This is what my publicist has advised.)

3. Lucinda B. Rabbit is alive and well. She is busy teaching her philosophy of, "It's good to be bad" and "A little naughty is nice" to our sweet, impressionable grandson, Sam (18 months). Please, no autographs - she asks you to contact her publicist for any personal requests. I'm sorry - this is Lucinda speaking - not me!

4. Light makes a big difference to my well-being. There is a lemony quality to the light as the sun is warming the tops of the trees. It makes me pucker my lips into a smile.

5. I love books and reading. I updated my Book Review page yesterday. I was surprised to learn I've already read 16 books in 2014. (Actually, 17 - I finished one last night that I haven't yet reviewed.) I mostly read in the evening after dinner. Do you have a special time of day when you like to curl up with a book? I definitely choose reading over TV.

Thank you to my friend, Nancy, who hosts

"Light makes a big difference to my well-being." How perfect & true is this statement - I relate!
I could use a good publicist, myself. ;)
The last time I checked my list I was at 14 books so far in 2014. I read any time I don't have something more pressing to do. :)
I've taken a few days off while working on tearing apart our living room. Need to finish & get it back together so I have my favorite cozy reading place back!
Fun Random 5, Barb - enjoy your weekend!

Light makes a big difference to me, too! You cracked me up with your references to a publicist - and you're so right. How did kale become so popular lately? - I remember when everyone used to wrinkle their nose at the thought of kale soup - although truth be told, I like kale! I usually read in the evenings. I don't even know what's on TV anymore. Everything I watch (which is rare) is either on-demand or netflix.

Will we ever know the truth about the food we eat?
I LOVE the light and warmth from the sun!
Baby Sam is still cute and cuddly. He has a few more years before that description changes to something more big boyish.
I steal reading time whenever I can. A few uninterrupted hours on Saturdays and Sundays have become the favorite. I must look at your reviews!

Well, I'm chuckling. And yes, food has stylists (who I suppose could be called aestheticians) and I don't doubt they have publicists, too! I'll have to check your book page. I'm woefully behind on my book blog, Chopsticks and String. Not sure I've written on it in 2014 even though I've read 10 books -- paltry to your 19! Right now I'm into The Goldfinch, which is very, very long! The stack gets taller than I can read them!

Sam's adorable and I think he has a few more uncorruptable years! Happy weekend!

One day they say coffee is good for us, the next day its bad for us. The same with eggs.. So I just try to everything in moderation. Of coarse that includes chocolate. I love to read before I go to bed. The problem is that I only read 1 or 2 pages and I fall asleep.. I enjoyed reading your blog this morning. And I do enjoy your photos as well.

Hugs~

Barb, so you love your Paperwhite! I am anxiously waiting for mine to be delivered.. :)
It is good to Lucinda B. is keeping Sam company and teaching him some of her philosophy on live. Livin' life with Lucinda B.!
I need and want to read your Book Reviews, it always helps when looking for good reads.
You ARE skinny.. in the best kind of healthy way!
Last photo is gorgeous!

Oh! Yes! Light! Instant mood brightener and energizer!

And . . . uh . . . Barb? I think you need not worry about looking thin enough!

Olga said...

Sun light and fresh air--doesn't get much better than that. Maybe a mischievous toddler thrown in for good measure.

Did you check with Sam's mom and dad before letting Lucinda loose with him ;))? The light is absolutely lovely and I thrive in light too. And Colorado does have beautiful light and sunshine almost every day of the yea --- but some of it is such COLD light! Did I ever write to thank you for your Book Reviews Page? If I didn't I meant to. .. I look at it every once in a while. Really enjoy the way you do these brief reviews .... and have learned about several books I would have missed otherwise.

I love light, too, all the different ways it looks and creates mood.
I usually read in stolen moments during the day when I tell myself I need a break or deserve a reward. Also before I go to bed, which makes for strange drams sometimes!

Oh, Sam's little pout is precious! That's a photo I would treasure forever! I love your beautiful captures of light and shadows. I rather like the long shadows best, too! As far as reading, I read late in the evening.

I think that I smiled or laughed all the way through this post! :)

Yes Barb a publicist is a great idea for us all!! Just who do those 'kale and quinoa' think they are anyway!! lol

Besides your tall skinny image, loved that brilliant blue sky. Wow.
I always read in bed for about an hour a day, unless I get really hooked.

Lucinda is being her true self today. That grandson is so cute I could squeeze him. I don't read nearly as much as I should but when you do these type of posts I'm reminded of that. Stay warm.

Ida said...

Nice random thoughts & photos. I'll have to remember that trick about the skinny shadows in early morning light.
Your grandson is really cute.
I haven't read a single book yet this year although I have a long list of ones I would like to find and read.

Sharon said...

You have a great sense of humor! I've wondered the same thing about kale. Why is it so popular all of a sudden? Isn't it a lot like spinach? (I haven't hopped on the kale bandwagon yet . . .) Your grandson is adorable -- especially in those stripes :) Good for you for doing all that reading!

Hi Barb,
I just finished reading a good book and came on by to see you.
I love reading in the evening.

Wonderful shots, as always, oh, you 'skinny one' LOL
Sam is precious.

Today we had a glorious day of that beautiful Colorado sunshine and it was heavenly

I am all set for my skiing trip tomorrow, thanks for the tips.

Have a great weekend.

Wish my morning shadow could do all my clothes shopping for me.

you'd have to have an amazing publicist to make kale appealing to me! your grand is too cute and i see lucinda is "running" things as usual. bring on the light! :)

Jeanie said...

Sam must have a very good publicist because he comes across as cute and cuddly as can be. (love his shoes).
I always read some at night and and often during the day when I have some time.

Nancy @ A Rural Journal said...

I don't have a clue as to how many books I've read so far this year -- my bad! :)

Tabor said...

Gorgeous photos as always, and I do need a publicist.

I love that second shot with the deep blue sky. By the way, you always look skinny! Sweet little Sam in a quiet moment. Gorgeous light in the tree tops in that last capture. Books? I've just started a new one and read three last month. I like to read at any time, early mornings, in the evenings, sometimes in the afternoon, rarely later on in the morning which is my active time getting things done! My favourite place to read is outside on my balcony! Have a great weekend.

Carol Z said...

I could use the help of the person who made over kale, too. I like to read on the bus and subway. I'm not sure why the noisiest environment I can think of works best, but it seems to. I've finished nine books and I'm in the midst of two more. I've got "Invention of Wings" waiting on my kindle. I may start it tomorrow. Thanks for visiting Buttercups. Please come back often.

Pat @ Mille Fiori Favoriti said...

I need to remember that shadow trick as I put on quite a few pounds this winter due to hypothyroid troubles. Your Sam is so adorable! I was an avid reader when younger and before the intenet became such a distraction. I read about a book a month but I could do better.

KB Bear said...

We joke that some wildflowers need new publicists. "Yarrow" would be much more popular if it had a prettier name!

I love that morning and evening light too! Big smiles!

Kerri Farley said...

I just read 2 new books over the weekend! Oh how I LOVE to read!!! and I second that statement about light - it does a LOT for my well-being too!

I like the early morning, late evening skinny pics for myself. Lucinda has a great friend. And your lemony light is perfect. And I'm going to steal the phrase lemony light from you. Or rather share it with you. Have your attorney contact my attorney about it if you must!! And you are one voracious reader.

Gail Dixon said...

Cute little boy!! I need to remember to photograph myself more in shadows for the skinny factor. Ha! Love that. :)

Love your skiing shots. The corduroy looks so inviting!

Hi Barb! I love to "wonder" ... Your wonderings made me smile. Today I wondered why I ate so much gluten and not some kale or quinoa? Was it those buttery croissants that did me in or...?.I'm smiling at seeing Sam with Lucinda. She's my kind of girl! When I hike at the beach I'm carrying her likeness on my beach bag. Thank you for that.~!(: ) All is we'll in Uruguay. Today's light was exceptional. I was Bob's caddy/photographer at the Golf course. Hurray for wondering and wandering. Heaps of hugs, Mar

I love the randomness of your images and words. And that beautiful light in those snow fields. so lovely. My you have read a lot of books this year! I love to curl up with a good book, but don't seem to get enough time for it!
Have a wonderful week, and thank you for stopping by my blog last week - so sorry to have not gotten back to you before now!

Always love your Random 5 Barb!... Sam is just adorable is his striped outfit; love those lean selfies too!; light was a top priority when searching for my apartment, there's no better barometer for my mood I'm afraid; and oh my! the number of your read books is enviable! I love books too and haven't finished one this year unfortunately... would love to hear about some of your faves.

Lisa said...

I very much enjoyed your random five (although a bit late in my commenting). #1: guess you'll need to take that up with the Creator of the Universe! :-) #2 made me smile and #3 made me LOL! Thanks for popping by last Friday at my place.

I adore SAM!!!!

Hmm, I am going to have to try that shadow effect to make me look skinnier. I think I need to get on the bandwagon with Kale...it really is never on my shopping list. And Sam is so adorable. I am so looking forward to a baby in our family again!!

Splendid Little Stars said...

I'll have to increase my number of shadow selfies!
I love light,too. love the description--lemony. mmm
I like to read, too, but with a hand-held book it's mostly before I fall asleep at night. I listen to books as well. So far this year I've finished 9. I have one book by my beside and one in the CD player.

Wonderful photos! The light in that last one is just fabulous. I like shadow selfies, too. Mostly because they make me look taller. I've bought the baloney on kale, but there is nothing I can do with quinoa that will convince my family that it is actually edible.

Hello, Barb.
Sam is adorable. I always enjoy your words and photos. Light effectively creates the atmosphere. I love light too.

I returned home yesterday.I had very good days in my home town. I was able to take one night trip with my mother. I will be back soon!
